Kita yang memperhatikan makanannya, alas tidurnya, menggendong ke mana-mana dan memamerkan anjing baru kami. Meski itu tidak akan berlangsung lama. Pasti ada saja keluarga yang datang untuk membawa anjing-anjing lucu itu. Orang tuaku memang tidak mau ada banyak anjing di rumah.
Anjing kecil memang merepotkan. Menangis malam-malam. Kencing dan buang kotoran seenaknya. Kita harus membersihkan sendiri. Setelah sedikit besar, giginya gatal dan mulai menggigiti semua barang. Tas, sepatu, kaus kaki, keset, handuk, dan apa saja hingga rusak.
Saat ini, tiga keponakanku sedang keranjingan Bonty. Anjing kampung berbulu broken white. Umurnya baru hampir empat minggu. Tubuhnya gendut dan selalu minta perhatian. Wajar saja. Setiap saat pasti ada yang mencowel, menggendong, mencubit, mencium, dan membawa Bonty jalan-jalan. Tak jarang mereka menghardik dia agar menyalak. Mereka tertawa-tawa senang melihat Bonty balas menyalak marah.
Mungkin Abangku sengaja menghadiahkan anak anjing agar anak-anaknya merasakan pengalaman kecilnya. Meski dia tidak pernah bercerita tentang kenangannya dengan anjing tertentu.
Di rumah orang tuaku sekarang tinggal dua anjing di rumah. Bossy dan Lerong anaknya yang baru berumur satu bulan. Bossy dan Lerong adalah anjing campuran kampung dan Peking. Tubuh mereka pendek dan padat tapi lebih tinggi beberapa sentimeter dari Dingo induknya yang Peking asli. Sekarang Dingo ada di rumah salah satu tanteku agar dikawinkan dengan anjing jantannya. Namun, sampai sekarang Dingo belum juga dikembalikan.
Setiap bicara tentang Dingo, adikku tak pernah berhenti menyalahkan ibuku yang mau saja meminjamkan anjing bertinggi sekitar 20-25 cm sampai pundak dan badannya lebih panjang sedikit dari tinggi tubuhnya. Wela memang favorit. Bentuk hidungnya kecil dan pendek. Pesek malah. Matanya besar, bulat, dan hitam. Bulu ekornya lebat dan melengkung ke atas melebihi punggung. Rambut badannya sangat lebat. Di sekitar leher, rambutnya tebal, panjang, dan lurus.
Adikku yang satu ini memang pecinta anjing sejati. Dia pasti menangis dan marah-marah kalau anjingnya tidak ada di rumah saat pulang kantor. Dia tidak peduli orang lain melihat air matanya ketika mencari-cari anjingnya di sekitar rumah. Para tetangga juga sudah paham kayaknya.
Ketika pemberkatan rumah, pastor yang memimpin misa sempat terkejut melihat pemandangan aneh di kamar ayah dan ibuku. Dingo sedang tiduran santai di tempat tidur. Dia juga tidak beranjak ketika pastor memercikkan air suci. Semua yang melihat tidak dapat menahan senyum.
Ibu dan adikku ini juga sudah beberapa kali menjadi bidan buat anjing-anjing kami. Mengerikan. Mungkin ibu dan adikku ini punya bakat jadi bidan atau dokter kandungan. Dingo dan saudara-saudaranya memang harus dibantu setiap melahirkan. Tidak boleh dimandikan di minggu-minggu kehamilan tertentu. Aku sendiri punya pengalaman tak terlupakan dengan Belang, anjing kampung yang ketika aku pelihara paling kurus dan sakit-sakitan. Dia agak rewel dengan makanan. Belang hanya mau makan kue. Sikapnya ini yang justru membuat teman-teman Abangku tertarik. Pada saat istirahat sekolah, mereka berbondong-bondong ke rumah untuk membuktikan cerita Abangku. Betul, Belang tidak akan menyentuh nasi jika ada kue. Dan, mereka akan menertawakan Belangku. Kasihan sekali.
Memasuki umur satu tahun lebih, Belang dibikin erwe. Aku melihat dia dimasukkan ke dalam karung dan dibantai... Aku sampai meloncat karena kaget. Aku tidak bisa memprotes karena terlau banyak orang di rumah. Ada pesta. Tapi, sejak itu aku berjanji tidak akan pernah makan RW. Aku juga tidak mau memelihara anjing lagi.
Keinginan kecilku untuk memiliki anjing muncul kembali melihat Bonty. Pada saat yang sama sisi lain dari diriku mencegah. Bisikan agar tidak memelihara anjing lebih besar. Selain tidak ada yang merawat, aku juga tidak mau perhatianku tersita penuh buat anjing. Sama seperti yang aku rasakan sekarang. Moses kecilku memilih mengurusi Bonty daripada bicara di telepon denganku. Hiks!
